FINE GILT BRONZE CLOCK FRAME, 19TH CENTURYA fine 19th century rouge royal marble and gilt bronze figural clock base, the standing gilt bronze neoclassical figure of a goddess - possibly Sapho, shown leaning atop a pillar with a circular void intended for a clock mechanism, over an engraved dedication: 'Presented to William Evans Esq. by his Employees, Christmas 1877". Height, 22.5". Note: very heavy.

Note: This fragment is one component of a larger figure for a clock of the period of Louis XVIII, executed in 1827 and depicting Prudence leaning on a scroll with his right hand, and a sword with his left. A clock of this identical model is in the Spanish Royal Collection, Cat No. 345

Elliott 5 Percival St. London" and "England 759" the cast-iron nine-note piano frame marked "Elliott's Patent" dial marked by retailer Hyman Berg & Co. Chicago the movement sounding Whittington or Westminster chimes using actual piano hammers; bonnet carved with egg and dart scrolls fluted and dentil molding; case with beveled window flanked with carved bellflowers wreaths and palmettes height 99 in. width 25 in. depth 17 in. Provenance: Estate of Julia Badger Grand Rivers KY. Note: J.J. Elliott started his firm on Percival Street London in 1886 and received a patent in 1892 for a clock that chimes "on wires or strings like a piano."
